Interventions

Our study will use an Alberta-made digital wellness platform called My Viva Plan® with online individual guidance from healthcare professionals.

My Viva Plan® is a multimodal digital program that can be used to promote self-care in key health pillars, including mind, nutrition, and fitness. It offers fitness and meditation sessions, meal plan ideas, and goal tracking with coaching tips that can help manage chronic conditions, such as heart disease and diabetes.

What will I do in the study as part of the intervention?

If you participate, you will be assigned to one of two groups:

Both groups will receive handouts with information on how to be healthy and active, a Fitbit activity monitor, and support phone calls.

Group 1

Will use the digital wellness platform daily with guidance from healthcare professionals for 16 weeks, then alone for 8 weeks. Participants will also attend two online cooking sessions.

A timeline divided into two phases: a 16-week intensive phase (weeks 1–16) and an 8-week maintenance phase (weeks 17–24). Rows outline participant activities as follows: • Receive educational material: Occurs in week 1. • Set up Fitbit device: Completed in week 1. • Set up My Viva Plan: Completed in week 1. • Use Fitbit device daily: Spans from week 1 to week 24. • Use My Viva Plan daily: Spans from week 1 to week 24. • Attend online individual sessions: Occurs throughout weeks 1–16. • Support telephone calls: Happens periodically within weeks 1–16. • Online cooking sessions: Held periodically during weeks 1–16. • Attend in-person assessments: Conducted at week 1 and week 24. • Complete questionnaires and diet records: Occurs at week 1 and week 24.

Group 2

You will receive publicly available health education materials on physical activity, healthy eating, and health awareness, as well as a Fitbit Inspire 3 device for its daily use during the study. You will receive support telephone calls from the research team for 24 weeks.

A timeline chart divided into two phases: a 16-week intensive phase (weeks 1–16) and an 8-week maintenance phase (weeks 17–24). Activities are outlined as follows: Receive educational material: Occurs during week 1. Set up Fitbit device: Completed in week 1. Use Fitbit device daily: Extends from week 1 to week 24, represented by an orange bar with a Fitbit icon.
